Official name : KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA

After regaining independence in 1953, the country resumed several names :

  • Kingdom of Cambodia (1953-1970, under Reachia Niyum Regime)
  • Khmer Republic (1970-1975, under Lon Nol Regime)
  • Democratic Kampuchea (1975-1979, under Khmer Rouge Regime)
  • People Republic of Kampuchea ( 1979-1989)
  • Sate of Cambodia (1989-1993)
  • Kingdom of Cambodia (1993 until now)

Situation : Located in the southern portion of the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia, bordered by Thailand to the northwest, Laos to the northeast, Vietnam to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest.

Area : Cambodia has 181,035 square kilometers.

Population : around 14 million
Khmer 90%, others are Cham (Khmer Islam), Chinese, Vietnamese, Khmer Leus(hill-tribes).

Climate: :
Cambodia’s climate is hot and warm, dominated by the annual monsoon cycle of rainy season from May to October and the dry season from November to April.
December to January are cool months.
The average temperature is 27-28°C .

Language :
KHMER is the official language rooted Mon Khmer. However, English is Widely spoken and French is the second language after English.

Religion :
The official religion is Theravada Buddhism, which is practiced by approximately 95% of the Cambodian population. Other religions like as Muslim, Christian are also practical.

Currency :
Riel is the national currency .  Other currencies like as US dollars, Baht Thai , Vietnam Dong are also available.

Transportation :
car taxi, motorcycle taxi (motodup) and moto-remork (Tuk-Tuk) are the practical transport  .

Customs and Tradition :
Cambodian culture and tradition have had a rich varied history dating back many centuries .
Over the years, the people of Cambodia developed a set of unique tradition from the syncretism of indigenous Buddhism and Hinduism,

Traditional dances
There are many classical dance form of which a highly stylized art form was one confined mainly to the courts of the royal palace and performed mainly by females. Known formally in Khmer as Robam Apsara, the dancers are often referred to as Apsara dancers.

The Apsara Dance is particularly inspired by the style from around more than a thousand Apsaras carvings in the Angkor temples complex . As evidenced in part by these Apsaras (celestial dancers), dance has been part of the Khmer culture for more than a millenium.

Food :
Rice is the staple grain, as in other Southeast Asian countries. Fish from the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers is also an important part of the diet. The cuisine of Cambodia contains tropical fruits, soups and noodles. Key ingredients are kaffir lime, lemon grass, garlic, fish sauce, soy sauce,curry, tamarind, ginger, oyster sauce, coconut milk and black pepper. French influence on Cambodian cuisine includes the Cambodian red curry with toasted baguette bread.

Sopping : Gems (sapphire and ruby), jewelry (gold and silver) art items, silk and cotton, souvenirs antique can be found at the Central Market ” Phsar Thom Thmei”, at Tuol Tunpoung Market (Russian market) or in specialty shops nearby.

Visa On Arrival

Visa on Arrival can be obtained at our Visa Counter upon arrival at Cambodia International Airports in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Please note that not all foreign passport holders can apply for a visa on arrival, therefore, they should check with the nearest Royal Embassy of Cambodia for the specific visa requirements for their countries.

Entry Visa requirements:

1. Passport valid for at least four (6) months from the expiry date
2. One recent photograph (4 x 6)
3. Visa fee payment
4. Supporting documents for Business & Official Visas

  • Tourist Visa : USD 30.00
  • Business Visa: USD 35.00
Visa K:

Visa K can be issued to a Cambodia national entering the Kingdom with a foreign passport. The applicant has to provide valid documents proving one’s parents were Cambodians. It is issued once, gratis and for unlimited entries into the Kingdom.

Visa Exemption:

The nationals of Indonesia, Laos, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines do not need a Tourist Visa. They are permitted to stay in the Kingdom for 30 days (21 days for the Filipino national).

Diplomatic, Official, Courtesy and Special (Cambodian national) visas are issued gratis.

Visa Extension:

The Tourist (T) and Business (E) visas can be extended at the Immigration Department, National Police. The Diplomatic (A), Official (B) and Courtesy (C) visas can be extended at the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Tourist Visa can be extended once for up to one (1) month (single entry).

Business Visa can be extended for:

  • One (1) month (single entry)
  • Three (3) months (single entry)
  • Six (6) months (multiple entries)
  • One (1) year (multiple entries)
Important Notice:
  • Visitors will be fined USD 5.00 per day for overstay.
  • Entry into the Kingdom may be refused to visitors without sufficient funds for their stay and/or a return ticket.

e-Visa is now available on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation: http://www.mfaic.gov.kh

Complete the necessary requirements as detailed in the above-mentioned website. For further information, please contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation or the nearest Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Requirement : Valid passport at least 6 months from the date of expiration, recent passport-size photograph in digital format (JPEG or PNG), valid credit card (Visa/MasterCard/American Express/Discover)
Visa Exemption : Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia
Countries not supported : Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Nigeria (please apply for your Visa from our nearest embassies or on arrival at our Cambodia International Airports or International Border checkpoints)

Document needed :
- Passport most expire at least 6 months after the end of visit in Cambodia
- One passport photo
- Visa fee : 30 USD for tourist visa and 35 USD for business visa.
